Cupping & Gua Sha

Cupping and Gua Sha

Cupping is an ancient healing technique that involves using specialised cups to create suction and thus a partial vacuum on the patients skin. It is quite relaxing as the practitioner controls the level of suction to suit your comfort whilst also obtaining maximum results.

Gua Sha also known as scraping involves brushing the surface of the skin with a jade or rose quartz tool to remove blockages of Qi in the meridians and expel external pathogens. It may be effective at alleviating pain, stiffness, fever, chills, cough, weave, nausea and vomiting. Modern research indicates it may have powerful effects on reducing inflammation and boosting the immune system.

Cupping and Gua Sha have potentially great benefits for many systems throughout the body, including stimulating the flow of blood and lymph which can reduce pain, clear away inflammation and swelling and stimulate the immune system.

Historically it has being used to help heal respiratory conditions by breaking up sticky phlegm from inside of the lungs, enabling the patient to finally expectorate the phlegm and clear their lungs.

It may promote relaxation, helping with anxiety and depression disorders, whilst improving skin health and digestion.

Cupping may leave circular bruises and the Gua Sha may leave lines of bruising on areas that have been treated, these can last anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. The bruises are not at all painful and most people love to show them off as a display of self care, that they have had some treatment which is doing so much good for their body, mind and soul.

However, be sure to always tell your practitioner if you have a wedding or special occasion coming up and any aesthetic skin markings are not ideal.
